Art Therapy for Adults

I believe that one of the greatest difficulties to us as adults is the ability to overcome performance anxiety. How can I think of embarking on an art therapy course if "I can't draw?"

It is not easy to explain simply in words how an art therapy meeting works, but if you would like to try, you will realize that ‘artistry’ has no relevance. On the contrary, it could be an obstacle to your most spontaneous creativity.

In this case the artistic products have no aesthetic purpose, but are the main means of communication between the "inside" and the "outside". You will be able to work at your own pace, with the total absence of judgment from the facilitator, in a welcoming and protected place.

Art here becomes a tool and offers the possibility to explore one's inner world, "giving shape" to your current difficulty, with the possibility of "transforming" it, through the use of artistic materials. Transferring our thoughts to a sheet of paper allows us to be able to look at them from further away and establish a new relationship, supported by the art therapist.

What makes the difference compared to any other recreational activity, is the relationship that is created with the art therapist. The relationship is what heals and is at the heart. For this reason it is essential to build not only a good relationship but to have a true understanding with the art therapist. Therefore, the person will be able to decide whether and how much to say, allowing the art therapist to be able to respect and keep the right distance.
